The land & the lake
The park is located on the historic Nick Cooley Farm, just off Highway 90 on Old KY 90 Loop 3 / Cave Lake Road. The lake itself is the kind of small Kentucky water that's stocked with bass, bluegill, and crappie — perfect for kids learning to cast and adults trying to forget about Mondays.
The old grass runway
Cutting through the heart of the property is something you don't expect: a long grass airstrip from the days when small prop planes used to drop in from across the region. The hangar is long gone, the runway lights are quiet, and the field is fading a little more with every passing summer — but every now and then a vintage Cessna still bumps down here, just to say hello to a piece of Kentucky aviation history.
The strangest, prettiest thing on the property sits right beside the airstrip: a sundial rock formation laid out by hand in stones the size of soccer balls. It's so big you can't really read it from the ground — you have to be up in the air. Old-timers say the pilots used it to check their watches on the way in. We like to think it's still keeping time, even when nobody's watching.
We've turned the airstrip into one of the most beloved corners of the park: drive-in movie nights, classic car cruise-ins, midnight sparkler send-offs for our weddings, glow-paint 5Ks, and stargazing parties under what may be the darkest sky in Wayne County. If you've got a wild idea that needs a long, flat, wide-open stretch of meadow — we've probably got the spot for it.
The community we love
We're proud to host events that make Wayne County feel like home: the annual Easter egg hunt, the "Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs" tournament with Operation UNITE, the Southwestern Warriors cross country meets, and seasonal concerts that draw folks in from across the lake region. If you've got an idea for something that would bring the community together, come talk to us — we'll probably say yes.
“The view of the lake through those big windows during our reception is something our guests still talk about. It felt like home, but better.” — A Cave Lake bride
